Fall is when everyone suddenly decides to book a trip to Vienna. Most people get the pacing all wrong. They try to cram every palace into one afternoon and end up cranky by lunch, lol!
This list fixes that. It’s built around a realistic vienna itinerary 2 days pace, so you actually see the good things instead of sprinting past it. That alone is worth planning around!

We’re starting off strong with Schonbrunn Palace, the spot everyone puts first for good reason. The gardens alone are worth the early alarm, trust me!
Go right at opening so the courtyard photos come out empty. The gift shop line alone stretched past the fountain by noon.

St Stephens Cathedral Rooftop View
There’s always a promise to skip the tower. It never happens. The climb up St Stephens Cathedral is steep, so pace yourself!
My legs regret it every single time. The tiled roof pattern up top makes the burn worth it though, doesn’t it?
Belvedere Palace Garden Stroll
Rushing through Belvedere Palace was attempted once and a friend physically stopped me. The upper garden overlook alone earns its own half hour!
Bring snacks and just wander for a bit. Nobody rushes here. Honestly, nobody should!

Hofburg Palace Afternoon Tour
Hofburg Palace always gets saved for the afternoon since crowds thin out after lunch. It used to be the winter residence of the Habsburgs, my favorite dinner party fact!
The Imperial Apartments take about an hour at a everyday pace. Plaques tend to cause the eyes to glaze over, so winging it works better. The audio guide moves faster anyway.

Naschmarkt Sunday Food Crawl
Who doesn’t love a good food crawl, am I right? Naschmarkt on a Sunday turns into a proper market maze of stalls!
Cheese, olives, strudel and coffee all sit within a few steps of each other.

Prater Park Ferris Wheel
Vienna always got shaped in the mind by movies with this Ferris wheel in them. Prater Park still has that old school carnival energy around it!
It only gets ridden once, just for the view. It moves slower than a fair ride, which is honestly the whole charm, isn’t it?
Danube Canal Evening Walk
Most long days end here without even planning it. The Danube Canal at dusk is the quietest part of this whole itinerary!
The street art along the walls changes constantly, never the same twice. No plan needed, just walk until you’re tired! A few benches along the water make for a perfect pause.
Hundertwasserhaus Colorful Building Stop
The camera roll is basically half Hundertwasserhaus by now. Every window gets a different shape and every wall a different color. Stopping for each one is unavoidable, haha!
It’s a quick stop, maybe twenty minutes total. Worth the detour just for the photos alone, how cute is this?
Vienna Metro Ticket Guide
This lesson landed hard after nearly getting fined on the metro. The system runs on honor, but inspectors do check. The fine is steep enough to ruin a whole afternoon, lol!

The photo folder has the same Cafe Central shot as everyone else’s, lol! Marble columns, vaulted ceilings, a pianist playing most afternoons.

Willpower disappears completely once standing in front of the Demel pastry case. Rows of tarts, tiny cakes and chocolates lined up like jewelry, not in my book could anyone resist!
The window display alone stops foot traffic outside. The box to go somehow never makes it home unopened, who doesn’t love that?
