I have been getting so many DMs from you guys lately asking about my morning routine. And honestly? It makes me laugh every single time. You guys think I have this magical, two-hour aesthetic morning where I do yoga and apply fifteen layers of skincare.

Let me tell you the absolute truth. I am the queen of hitting the snooze button. I literally hit it four times this morning alone. Time just moves differently between 7:00 AM and 7:30 AM, I swear. It is like a black hole.

But here is the thing. I also hate looking like I just rolled out of a dumpster. I want to look like that effortlessly chic girl who has her whole life together, even when I am secretly running on dry shampoo and pure panic. I used to think that looking “well-groomed” meant waking up at dawn to curl my hair and iron my clothes. It was exhausting. Then, I realized something major. The girls who always look flawless? They are not spending more time in the mirror. They just have a better strategy.

I have completely hacked my routine. I figured out how to fake that high-maintenance look while actually being incredibly low-maintenance.

1. The “Night Before” Hair Strategy

Okay, we have to start with hair because this is the number one thing that makes or breaks your entire vibe. If your hair looks crazy, your whole outfit looks crazy. But nobody has time to wash and style their hair every single morning. I certainly do not.

The secret is doing the work while you are asleep. I learned this from the women in my family. Growing up, my grandma and my aunties had the most incredible, long, thick dark hair. They never used heat on it. My grandma used to sit me down in the evenings and brush a little bit of natural oil into the ends of my hair, and then she would braid it tight before bed. She told me that protecting your hair at night is the only way it will protect you during the day.

I still do this exact routine. I put a tiny drop of hair oil on my ends, put my hair in two loose braids, and sleep on a silk pillowcase. When I wake up, I just take the braids out. I have these gorgeous, heatless, soft waves. It takes me exactly zero minutes in the morning. If my roots are a bit flat, I just spray some dry shampoo, rub it in, and I am out the door.

Your easy hair checklist:

  • Silk pillowcases are mandatory: They stop your hair from getting frizzy while you sleep. They are worth every penny.
  • Embrace the slicked-back look: If your hair is truly dirty and you have no time, just use a clear gel and a boar bristle brush to pull it into a sleek low bun. It looks incredibly intentional and chic.
  • Keep a claw clip in your bag: For emergencies when the humidity strikes. A twisted updo in a nice tortoiseshell clip always looks elegant.

2. Ditch the Foundation for a “Skincare First” Base

If you are spending fifteen minutes blending foundation every morning, we need an intervention. Heavy makeup actually makes you look less “fresh” if it starts creasing halfway through the day. And when you are in a rush, foundation almost always ends up looking patchy or unblended around the jawline.

I had a massive reality check about this last year. I was running late for a big meeting downtown. I tried to do my full makeup routine in the back of a moving taxi. Girl, it was a disaster. I looked in the mirror when I got to the building and I had literal orange streaks on my neck. I had to go into the bathroom and aggressively wipe it all off with a wet paper towel. I ended up doing the presentation with just bare skin and a bit of lip balm. And you know what? Everyone told me I looked glowing.

Now, my daily base takes exactly two minutes. I use a really good, hydrating moisturizer, and then I apply a tinted SPF. That is it. It evens out the redness but still looks like real skin. The trick to looking groomed without makeup is just having deeply hydrated skin. If your skin is glowing, people automatically assume you have your life put together.

How to fake a flawless face in 2 minutes:

  • Focus on the brows: If you only do one thing, brush your eyebrows up with a tinted gel. Strong, neat brows frame your entire face.
  • Curl your lashes: You don’t even need mascara. Just curling your lashes opens up your eyes and makes you look awake.
  • Use a multi-stick: Keep a cream blush stick in your bag. Dab a little on your cheeks and your lips. It makes you look alive in five seconds.

3. The “No Iron” Wardrobe Rule

Nothing screams “I overslept and panicked” louder than a wrinkled shirt. You can wear the most beautiful, expensive outfit in the world, but if it is covered in fold lines from your laundry basket, you are going to look messy. But I also refuse to own an ironing board. Who has the time or the space for that?

The first thing you need to do is buy a handheld clothing steamer. It is literally the best thirty dollars I have ever spent in my entire life. It heats up in thirty seconds. You just hang your shirt up, run the steam over it twice, and the wrinkles literally melt away. It is so satisfying to watch.

The second part of this strategy is buying the right fabrics. I have slowly started getting rid of anything in my closet that requires extreme maintenance. I look for heavy cottons, knits, and thick crepes that do not wrinkle easily. If you build a wardrobe of clothes that naturally hold their shape, you never have to stress in the morning.

Clothing hacks for busy girls:

  • The shower trick: If you are traveling and don’t have a steamer, hang your outfit in the bathroom while you take a really hot shower. The steam will release the worst wrinkles.
  • Fold, don’t stuff: Take the extra three seconds to fold your clothes when you put them away. It saves you ten minutes of steaming later.
  • Monochrome always works: If you are staring at your closet and have no idea what to wear, just wear all black or all cream. It always looks intentional and sophisticated.

4. The “Bare Nail” Theory

Okay, we really need to talk about nails. I know we all love a fresh manicure. But there is a very harsh truth we have to accept. A bare, clean nail looks a million times better than a beautiful manicure that is halfway chipped off.

I used to be obsessed with painting my nails dark red. But I work with my hands a lot, and the polish would chip after two days. I would be too busy to take it off, so I would just walk around with these awful, jagged, chipped nails for a week. It completely ruined every single outfit I wore. It makes you look like you don’t take care of yourself.

Now, I practice the “Bare Nail” theory. I keep my nails filed short and naturally clean. The absolute game changer is cuticle oil. I keep a little pen of cuticle oil on my desk and in my purse. I just swipe it on whenever I have a free second. When your cuticles are hydrated and pushed back, your bare hands look incredibly elegant and groomed. It takes zero time and there is absolutely zero maintenance.

5. Signature Jewelry is Your Armor

This is probably my favorite tip on this entire list. You can be wearing the most basic, boring outfit ever – like literally just a plain white t-shirt and some baggy jeans. But if you add the right jewelry, suddenly it is a “look.”

The mistake people make is trying to coordinate cheap, trendy jewelry with every single outfit. It takes too much time to dig through a tangled box of necklaces every morning. Instead, you need a signature set of jewelry that you never take off. Pieces that represent who you are.

For me, it is my traditional jewelry. I have a beautiful, heavy silver ring with a piece of raw turquoise that my uncle made for me. I wear it on my right hand every single day. I also have a simple, delicate silver chain that I wear around my neck. Because these pieces are real metal, I can sleep in them and shower in them. I literally wake up already accessorized.

When people see that you wear high-quality, signature pieces every day, it gives the illusion that you put a lot of thought into your appearance, even when you literally just rolled out of bed.

How to build your jewelry uniform:

  • Pick your metal and stick to it: Decide if you are a gold girl or a silver girl for your everyday base. It makes everything look cohesive.
  • Invest in good hoops: A pair of medium-sized, solid gold or silver hoop earrings will save you on your worst days. They instantly frame your face.
  • Wear something meaningful: Whether it is a family heirloom or a piece from a local artist, wearing something with a story always makes you look more interesting and put together.

6. The Scent and Moisture Factor

Looking well-groomed is not just about what people see. It is about the entire aura you project when you walk into a room. You can have the perfect hair and a steamed shirt, but if your skin is dry and ashy, the illusion completely falls apart.

I am super serious about body moisture. I keep a rich, unscented lotion in my bathroom and I put it on my arms and legs the second I step out of the shower while my skin is still damp. It takes thirty seconds, but it gives your skin this beautiful, healthy sheen all day long.

And finally, you need a signature scent. I don’t mean a heavy, overpowering perfume that gives everyone in the elevator a headache. I mean a soft, clean scent. Something that smells like expensive soap or fresh laundry. I just do one spray on the back of my neck. When you walk past someone and you smell clean and fresh, they subconsciously register you as a highly groomed, organized person. It is basically a psychological trick!
